World of Outlaws to visit I-80 Speedway again in 2016 on June 22

GREENWOOD, Neb. — December 10, 2015 — The World of Outlaws Sprint Car Series will visit I-80 Speedway in Greenwood, Nebraska again in 2016 on Wednesday, June 22. The event will mark the third straight year that the series has competed at the high-banked 4/10-mile.

This past season 2001 World of Outlaws champion Danny Lasoski won a thrilling battle with now-seven-time series champ Donny Schatz. Lasoski led the majority of the race, before Schatz took the lead with three laps to go. Lasoski battled back and took the lead on the last lap to score his second win with the series at the track and his 90th overall career World of Outlaws triumph. Schatz ended up second, with Jason Sides in third.

The World of Outlaws Sprint Car Series has contested 14 A-Feature events at I-80 Speedway, dating back to 1995. A total of eight drivers have won with the series at the track, with two-time series champion Mark Kinser leading the list with four triumphs. The Indiana native won the first three World of Outlaws races at the track and four of the first five. Steve Kinser, the 20-time series champion and Sammy Swindell, a three-time titlist, have each won twice at the track in their amazing careers.

Drives that have one victory with the World of Outlaws at I-80 Speedway include: Joey Saldana, who will be in a new ride for 2016, Craig Dollansky, Stevie Smith and Jac Haudenschild.

The 2015 season was a historic one for the World of Outlaws Sprint Car Series as Donny Schatz became just the second driver ever to win 30-plus A-Feature events in the season, 31 to be exact, joining Steve Kinser, who accomplished the feat three separate times in his illustrious career. On his way to winning his seventh World of Outlaws title, Schatz surpassed the 200-win plateau for his career, joining Kinser and Swindell as the only three drivers in series history to achieve that mark.

Shane Stewart, whose Larson Marks Racing team was in their first full season on the road with the series, finished second in points in 2015, on the strength of nine A-Feature wins. Sweet ended up third in points for Kasey Kahne Racing, followed by his teammate Pittman in fourth and Australian Kerry Madsen rounded out the top-five. A total of 22 drivers picked up World of Outlaws win in 2015.
