Cornhusker Classic A Mods & B Mod Features will have three wide start
At last year’s final night A Mod feature, 30 A Mods started the event three wide and it worked out just fine with Brookfield, Missouri’s Hunter Marriott taking the win despite a strong charge from Beatrice’s Jordan Grabouski.
Former NASCAR Sprint Cup driver Ken Schrader was third with Chris Abelson fourth and Justin Zeitner fifth.
At this year’s Cornhusker Classic (which is a two-day event on Friday, October 7 & Saturday, October 8), the A Mods and B Mods features on Saturday night will both start three wide with the A Mod feature set to go 40 laps and the B Mod feature 30 laps.
On Friday night, the Modifieds and Sport Mods will be running double qualifying heats only (just like Super Late Models at the Silver Dollar Nationals). The top 15 drivers in points from Friday nights double qualifying heats (based on passing points) will advance to Saturday night’s A feature. The field will be filled by six or nine additionals cars added from 2 or 3 B features. If 35 cars or less in Modifieds and Sport Mods, the A feature will start 21 cars. If 36 or more cars we will start 24 in the A feature.
This means we will most likely take three cars from each of two B features or three cars from each of three B features to fill the field to 21 or 24 cars. The Modifieds and Sport Mods features will start three wide either seven rows (21 cars) or eight rows (24 cars) deep. The top six qualifiers will pick their starting spots in the first two rows with the highest qualfier choosing first, second highest second etc.
The A Mod feature is scheduled to pay $6,000 to win, $4,000 for second, $3,000 four third, $2,000 for fourth, $1,500 for fifth on down to $500 to start. The B feature purse will pay $1,500 to win, $1,000 for second, $800 for third on down to $200 to start.
Having said all that, Promoter Joe Kosiski has just announced that if 75 A Mods are entered, the A Mods will race for $7,500 to win, $4,500 for second on down to $750 to start and will start start 27 in the feature. If 100 A Mods are entered, the feature will pay $10,000 to win, $5,000 for second and $1,000 to start and start 30 cars.
The B Mods will have a similar option if 75 B Mods are entered their feature will pay $2,500 to win, $1,500 second with $250 to start and will start 27 cars. If 100 B Mods are entered the feature will pay $3,500 to win, $1,500 for second and $350 to start with 30 cars starting the feature.
